Dedicated to environmental sustainability, Auberge & Spa West Brome has incorporated a wide range of eco-responsible measures to minimise the impact of its operations on our environment.
Rated 4 Green Keys from the Canadian Hotel Association, Auberge & Spa West Brome is a destination of choice for eco-conscious individuals. Below are some of the ways Auberge & Spa West Brome is helping our planet:Recycling
- We recycle all glass, plastic, metal and paper. Over 80% of all items used at our Auberge is recycled or composted. Due to our vigorous recycling measures our garbage pick-up is now once every two weeks instead of twice a week and our recycling bin is three times bigger than our garbage bin.
- All corks used are shredded into mulch to be used on our gardens.
- Only recycled paper is used for administration purposes and toilet paper, tissues and hand towels are made from recycled paper.
Less Solid Waste
- Soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers are provided in the bathrooms rather than wasteful individual bottles. These items are all ordered in bulk to reduce on packaging and transportation.
- All vegetable waste from the kitchen is composted for our gardens.
- China and linen is provided for group meal breaks instead of plastic and paper, where possible.
- Printed material has been reduced, reservation confirmation undertaken by email and more information is provided on-line.
- Hardi-plank siding has been applied to the accommodation pavilion exterior walls. This very durable material lasts for over a hundred years therefore reducing our contribution to landfills by minimising the maintenance required on our exterior walls.
Energy Efficiency
- Energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are used in all the rooms.
- All windows and patio doors have been changed to be more energy efficient.
- Air ducts have been installed on the roof for better air circulation.
Less Pollution
- No fertilizers or pesticides are used in our gardens or lawns.
The 1000 acre farm surrounding the Auberge also uses no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. - All cleaning products, laundry detergent and soaps are all bio-degradeable (phosphate free)
- Toilet paper, napkins, hand towels and tissues are made from recycled 100 % post consumption paper that is chlorine-free.
- Our new swimming pool is treated with only salt.
- All toiletries are ordered in bulk to reduce carbon emissions due to transportation. Now items are shipped once a year instead of four times a year.
Saving on Water
- Rainwater is captured to water our gardens, internal plants and used for our Vichy rain water spa treatment.
- Showers and toilets have been adapted to consume less water.
- Towel and sheet reuse program in use for longer stays.
Buy Local & produce on-site
- Purchase food items from artesian producers where possible within a 100km radius to reduce carbon emissions
- Planted a biological kitchen garden which we harvest several herbs and some vegetables
Use Renewable Sources
- Use of bamboo flooring and cork in the Health Spa.
Carbon Neutral
- 200 acres of unpolluted, unexploited property.
- For every event, marriage, meeting etc of over ten participants and more, a tree is planted on our property in their name.
- For all our corporate clients we donate to a carbon-offsetting organization to neutralize the carbon dioxide emissions created to reach us. This donation is given in the clients name.
- Flowers are used for decoration throughout the Auberge.
